The lid switch won’t turn on

Read the note under the switch. It is usually one of these:

Lid mode turned itself off

The battery reached your limit, the Mac got hot, Barnook quit, or the helper app restarted. The reason appears under the switch. Each of these is a safety stop.

Check whether sleep is blocked right now (advanced)

You normally won’t need this. If your Mac won’t sleep, type pmset -g | grep SleepDisabled in Terminal. 1 means sleep is blocked, 0 means normal. If it still says 1 after quitting Barnook, sudo pmset -a disablesleep 0 puts it back.

A port’s Quit button is disabled

Programs macOS needs (such as the AirPlay receiver) are protected so you can’t stop them by mistake. If a program ignores the first request, the button becomes Force quit. Programs other users started don’t appear.

A setting didn’t take effect

Finder, Dock and screenshot settings apply right away (they restart for a moment). Key repeat applies after you log out and back in, hold-to-repeat to apps you open afterwards, and hidden folder file (.DS_Store) settings to drives you connect afterwards.

Put everything back

Press Revert all in the panel or the Mac settings window. Every setting returns to its value from before Barnook first changed it, and settings that didn’t exist are deleted. Lid mode ends when you turn the switch off or quit Barnook.

Removing the helper app

Choose Remove helper (lid, web addresses) in the ⋯ menu. If lid mode is on, it is turned off first. Turning the helper off in System Settings › General › Login Items also puts sleep back before it stops.

Entering or moving a license

Open Mac settings… from the panel, paste the key from your receipt under License at the top and click Activate. To move to another Mac, click Deactivate on this Mac first. One license covers up to 3 Macs. For purchase questions, reply to your Lemon Squeezy receipt.

My trial ended

Free tools keep working. Awake with lid closed and changing Mac settings need a license, and Revert all always works. If lid mode was on when the trial ended, you can still turn it off but not back on.

Reporting a problem

Tell us your Mac model, macOS version, Barnook version and what happened with which feature. Please don’t send screenshots with personal information.
