Barnook macOS

Everything stays on your Mac.

Last updated October 9, 2026.

Online only for licensing

Barnook has no analytics, tracking or ads. It connects to barnook.pages.dev only when you activate a license, about once a week to recheck a purchased one, and when you deactivate it. It sends only the license key and a random number the app created. The server checks them with the payment company (Lemon Squeezy) and returns a confirmation that can’t be forged; it stores neither license keys nor IP addresses. If you only use the free tools, Barnook connects nowhere.

What the app reads

What it stores

License and trial state live in a private file in your account (~/Library/Application Support/Barnook/License.json). App preferences and the original values of Mac settings you changed are stored in your macOS user account’s app preferences. While lid mode is on, the helper app keeps one empty marker file in /Library/Application Support/Barnook for recovery.

The helper app

The helper app does two things only: the setting that keeps the Mac awake with the lid closed, and refreshing web addresses. It talks only to Barnook signed with the same developer certificate.
