Release notes.
1.2.1 · October 10, 2026. Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. The basics are free; Pro features keep working after a 14-day trial with a $4.99 license. See the install page.
1.2.1
- New menu bar icon: a small box instead of the eye. It fills in while Barnook keeps your Mac awake, and gets a circle while it stays on with the lid closed.
1.2.0
- Lidless is now called Barnook, so it can’t be confused with another Mac app of the same name. Nothing else changed. If you used Lidless, choose “Remove helper” in its ⋯ menu, quit it and delete it, then install Barnook.
1.1.6
- Plainer wording in the Mac settings window: each setting says what changes on screen (for example “Show the folder’s location at the bottom of windows”).
- .DS_Store is now introduced as “Hidden folder files”, with a one-line explanation.
1.1.5
- The “LAN” badge on running servers now reads Open to network, and its tooltip explains that other devices on the same Wi‑Fi can connect.
1.1.4
- “Listening ports” is now Running servers. Hover over the ⓘ next to the title for what the list shows.
1.1.3
- “Flush DNS” is now Refresh web addresses. Hover over the button to see when to use it and its technical name (DNS cache).
1.1.2
- Clearer wording in the panel, for example “Let the screen sleep, keep the Mac running”, “59:12 left”, “Off at 20% battery” and “Auto-clear what you copy · Never”.
- Lid mode explains what it does while off, and when it turns itself off while on.
1.1.1
- The menu bar panel is reorganized into Stay awake, Quick actions, Listening ports and Mac settings, and round icons fill in while a feature is on.
- Pro features carry a badge, and the panel footer shows your license state (Pro, trial days left or Free).
- The battery limit for automatic shut-off appears only while lid mode is on.
1.1.0
- Licensing: awake with lid closed and Mac settings are now Pro. Free to try for 14 days from first use, then $4.99 once for up to 3 of your Macs. Activate at the top of the Mac settings window.
- Keep awake, listening ports, clipboard, display off, DNS flush and Revert all stay free.
- Barnook goes online only to activate a license and to recheck it about once a week.
1.0.0
- Mac settings window: 17 Finder, Dock, screenshot, keyboard and .DS_Store settings. Original values are recorded in their stored form and Revert all restores them exactly.
- .DS_Store cleanup: pick a folder, review what was found, then delete regular files only. Symbolic links and app bundle contents are never touched.
- Flush DNS.
- 9 languages, switchable from the ⋯ menu.
- Removing the helper or turning it off in Login Items restores sleep before it stops.
- After an app update the helper restarts itself with the new version.
- Panel refresh: four quick-action buttons, the listening ports list displays reliably, better LAN marking.
0.2.0
- Awake with lid closed. Turns off automatically when the app quits or crashes, at your battery limit, or when hot, and recovers after a restart.
0.1.0
- Keep awake, quit listening ports, clear and auto-clear the clipboard, display off, Finder settings with revert.
What was tested
Testing so far was done on one Apple silicon MacBook running macOS 27. This doesn’t guarantee behavior on every Mac.
